A good begining to a new year!
It has been 8 years since the inception of EIP Malaysia. In June 2007, another 10 Public Health Physicians joined the EIP family. This is the first time the program decided to have a yearly intake of new trainees and we look forward to a busy year ahead of us. 2008 will also see graduates of EIP busy preparing for the 5th Global TEPHINET Scientific Conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur. Under the guidance of the Director of Disease Control, the program has expanded its role not only to train individual's competency but also to provide assistance to program heads in desease surveillance and response. In 2007, some EIP fellows were sent to uncontrolled dengue outbreak localities in Malaysia to help manage the situation. The Management of EIP Malaysia would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all EIP fellows participating in the 4th Bi-Regional TEPHINET Conference in Taipeh, Taiwan. A special mention goes to Dr. Noorhaida Ujang and Dr. Sharom Nor Azian Che Mat Din from the 3rd Cohort for receiving the first and third prize in the poster and oral presentation respectively. Dr. Marina Kamarudding from the 2nd Cohort also received the fifth prize for the poster. Congratulations!!!!
Dr. Fadzilah Kamaludin Director, EIP Malaysia

Background
The
Epidemic Intelligence Programme is skill training in public health
that focus on ‘field epidemiology’. The program is based on
public health experience in field investigation, disease
surveillance, epidemiological methods, report writing and oral
presentation. This ‘shoe-leather’ epidemiology involves case
surveillance, interviewing, collection of specimens, application of
statistical methods to assess factors responsible for illness and
establishing control measures in coordination with other agencies.
